I am getting ahead of myself here. I hadn’t planned on talking about text link ads yet because I am still trying to cover and document some basic steps that I finally mastered.
Text Link Ads, if you don’t know, is when someone pays you to put a link to their website within your website or post. Most of these companies pay you for the link not because they are advertising their website to your readers, most of them are buying a link from your site to take advantage of an SEO (search engine optimization) tactic to piggy back on your Pagerank. Confused?
Here’s my 30 second explanation. PageRank (PR), a Google application, is a rank from 1 to 10 which indicates the importance of your website in terms of visitors and the number and quality of sites linking back to yours. It’s like a giant pyramid scheme on the internet. The more sites you have linking to your site and the higher their page rank is, the higher you get on the PR pyramid. This premise goes for every other website that asks you or pays you for a link. The more high PR sites linking to them, the higher their PR gets.
What’s does PR do for you other than just having the the bragging rights of saying you got a high PR? Keep in mind that PR is owned by Google, the number one search engine in the www. The higher your PR, the more likely you are to appear on the top of Google search results for the tag applicable to your website, which translates to more visitors to your site, which means higher rank for your site, and on and on.
So you can understand why Google would not like having sites sell link ads for the purpose of SEO. Having artificial linkbacks really messes up their algorithm, so they don’t like it. Who is the culprit here? Well, in my simplistic way of thinking, I would say the blame should be on the guy who is trying to cheat the system by buying links. But, of course, my thinking must be too simple. I must be missing some bigger equation. Google has on their terms of service (bet you didn’t even know you were bound to that terms of service did you?) that websites are prohibited from selling link ads and if they catch you or suspect you of selling ads, you shall be penalized by having your PR taken away or reduced to 0 which pretty much means the same thing.
There are several places online where you can sign up to sell links, and I will tell you more about them later, if you are willing to risk losing your PR. Me, I had never really cared about PR before nor did I know their significance either, so I just hadn’t worried too much about the issue. Google does what it has to do, and I’ll do what I gotta do. We both gotta make money, so hey…. all is fair….as they say.
Anyway, I received through email the following offer:
Hi!
****, asked me to contact friends who may be interested in
earning extra $ from “domain-owned blog site’s internal pages (not on
homepage)” from an SEO company. The company will accept
only .net, .org, .ph, . com; NO wordpress or blogspot blogs. Payment
would be through Paypal, Western Union or check. You may contact ****** directly at: *****@gmail.com if you are interested. He told
me that he already got cash through PayPal from the SEO company.More on this extra income source from ****** contact’s note below:
Hi!
>
> I am interested in placing custom-made paragraphs on your domain-owned blog site’s internal pages (not on homepage). You don’t have to create the paragraphs as I will be providing them myself, all you have to do is copy-paste the entire placement (along with the hyperlinks) on the selected pages. If there’s any drawback for this, the links should stay permanent on the selected pages.
>
> Please let me know if you are interested in my offer then we will discuss more in detail. I can offer you best to make it worth your time.
>
> Payment methods are via Paypal, Western Union or Check and are usually processed after sending us your completed links.
>
> Thank you very much!
Then today, while reading the ProBlogger feed, I found out that these email campaigns is how link buyers and sellers are going underground. It’s an entertaining but also a very informative post. I’m glad I hadn’t responded to the email solicitation above yet. After reading the ProBlogger’s post, I probably will just stick to the Link Ads I’m working with now.

Your Blog is entertaining me, I love it
Hope you keep on posting great stuff
regards, terry
