I love Blogger! That’s where I started blogging. It was easy to understand, a great place to practice blogging and it allowed you to learn how to get your hand dirty with html and css. Best of all though, you got to do all that for free! You know what else? You got their service for free and they allowed you to monetize your blog if you choose to! What could be better, eh?
Being the loyal person that I am and having a tendency to resist change, I have to admit though, that I stayed a little too long. I should have gotten my own domain name and hosting much sooner than the three years.
When you finally decide to make the jump and get your own domain and hosting, I recommend using WordPress as your blogging platform. I briefly looked into the other types of blogging platforms and ultimately decided that WordPress, the most popular platform for people who are hosting their own blogs, is the one that is going to be easiest for me to learn. Plus, the themes are still flexible enought that I could still customize it to fit my taste and my needs.
I had considered switching to WordPress a few years back but when I read up on how to transfer your Blogger blogs to WP, I always came up on these long and complicated tutorials and instructions on manually transferring posts and comments, I immediately turned back to my old trusty blogger. But you know that old saying that time takes care of things? Well, bless the WP developers, they did! By the time I got my domain and hosting, WP had developed a one click import button. Bless their heart, they answered my prayers.
So now, when you are looking at your blank WP dashboard and wondering where you’re going to start, click on the Manage tab, then the Import tab under it. Select your Blogger blog, follow the instructions, and in a matter of minutes, your whole blog is now on WordPress! Easy peasy, right?
