One of the coolest things about blogging is being able to share images in your blog posts. The most common questions I hear from most new bloggers is, “how do I put pictures in my post?” The first thing to do with images that you want to use in your blogs is to upload them somewhere online or to your own server if you have one.
Here are a few FREE photo hosting sites that I’ve tried and liked. These photo hosts provide you with the HTML code and URL to simply paste onto your blog post:
Picasa Web Albums – being the best free blogging platform that it is, Blogger has provided its users with the means to store their photos online and post them on their blogs. Lets you organize your photos into albums and post whole albums on your blog too. If you download the Picasa software, you can edit your photos, create collages and other neat projects.
Flickr - is owned by Yahoo! You can use your Yahoo! log in or create a new account to log in. One of the neatest feature in Flickr is that it provides you with different sizes of your photos. Flickr also has a great community of photo enthusiasts that you can network with. The limitations that I found is that you can only store 200 photos on their free account and you have a low bandwidth limit monthly. Once you reach your limit, you can’t add anymore until the following month. Once you go over, your older ones are archived. You can’t see them on your dashboard anymore. They are still on the server, they will still show where you had posted them previously, you just can’t see or call them up on your control panel anymore.
Photobucket - this is the one I’m using the most right now because it gives you a larger space to save photos. I also haven’t exceeded my bandwidth yet although I have almost a thousand photos in there now. Photobucket lets you edit your photo sizes online, but the limitation is that once you’ve reduced your size, you can’t revert back. So if you want a thumbnail and a full size, you’d have to upload the two different sizes. Or, if you are comfortable with html codes, you can always adjust the size inline. If you ever want to upgrade to the PRO account and get unlimited storage space and bandwidth, the price is very reasonable.
These are the three I’ve used. If you know of other free photo hosting sites that lets you use the images on your blog, please let me know.
